Kenyatta Forbes

Chicago fiber artist.

As a self-taught macrame artist, Kenyatta Forbes of Urban Macrame Fibers finds inspiration in color to create original macrame wall art and wall hangings. By using all kinds of fibers and accessories, she makes her one-of-a-kind designs simple, yet striking. When she’s not designing Macrame in her home studio in Chicago, IL, she’s exploring the world traveling looking for inspiration.
I create: Macrame art
I use: 100% cotton rope and lots of other goodies.
Based in: Chicago, IL
Favorite things about my city: The diversity, intersections of culture, and the lake!
Lately, I’ve been inspired by: Patterns in nature, textures, and bold and bright colors.
The most important thing in my workspace is: My wheels of rope, good music, and vintage macrame books.
Kenyatta earned her MFA in Film/Video/Animation from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007 and went on to become the technology coordinator and digital media educator for Chicago Public Schools.
